NY Elite: Tell us a little about yourself.

Nestor Correa: I started as a fashion photographer right out of school in the late 80s shooting on 35mm film. After a course at NYU’s film school, I decided to go into the Broadcast market, and worked in TV for NBC, Fox Sports and Univision, I later moved to Advertising and worked as producer for various campaigns for companies such as Mercedes-Benz and Disney on Ice. After some time in advertising, I took the plunge back into Fashion which is my roots and I have been shooting for brands across the country for over 12 years now.

NY Elite: What type of photography do you do? What genre?

Nestor Correa: I focus mainly on Fashion and lifestyle, but I also love working Beauty campaigns, for skincare brands.

NY Elite: How would you describe your artistic style?

Nestor Correa: I like to focus on the personal side of the model, their internal passion and energy. The eyes are the focus, they tell the story every time. I’m always looking for real expression, natural attitude.

NY Elite: What is it that interests you most about photography?

Nestor Correa: Meeting people. Developing a story and watching come to life, and the reaction of viewer after.

NY Elite: How has your artistic journey been? What do you consider as achievements in your journey?

Nestor Correa: It has been a nonstop journey and still is, its about developing self-awareness and building your strengths to go to next step. Being published in Harper’s and Glamour were big milestones for me, it opened new doors to different projects.

NY Elite: What are you currently working on?

Nestor Correa: I’ve partnered with producers and stylists to develop fresh content for brands.

NY Elite: Can you tell us about a memorable moment you had during your artistic career?

Nestor Correa: Having my work in an exhibition in Lisbon was a great moment. I went out there to be part of that and was very fulfilling.

NY Elite: Any other favorite projects that you would like to highlight?

Nestor Correa: I recently did a shoot with an amazing team for Somme Skincare and it was very rewarding to be part of that.

NY Elite: Where do you draw your inspiration?

Nestor Correa: From masters like Perter Lindbergh, Avedon and Scavullo. I like to stay connected to commercial magazines like Vogue, Glamour and get inspiration from the current talent in the field.

NY Elite: What does it take to be successful in your industry?

Nestor Correa: It takes perseverance and believing in yourself. It can be a difficult business at times, and hits hard at your ego. You must be strong to survive.

NY Elite: What is your advice for young photographers?

Nestor Correa: Shoot, all the time, don’t worry about cool gear and brands, just shoot, and learn to read people, develop your vision. The equipment doesn’t matter in the beginning. Find out who you are first.

NY Elite: Do you publish your photos or do any exhibitions?

Nestor Correa: I do both, although in the past few years it has been mainly published, although I have thought of exhibiting at some point.
